The Holy Family Catholic Community started in the fall of 1984 as a new parish to serve the Northwest suburbs. The first Mass was celebrated on December 1, 1984, in the cafeteria at Fremd High School while work began on a permanent home for our community, which was dedicated on April 30, 1988. The completion of the new church brought a dramatic increase in the size of the congregation and the responsibilities of the congregation and the responsibilities of the parish.

Horner Park is a public park, existing on privately owned land. It is a 58-acre park and recreation facility with old growth trees, a five acre fishing lake, tennis courts, soccer field, two baseball diamonds and a short nature walk. The first church, was founded in 1857 through the zeal, hard work, sweat and generous donations of the Catholic citizens of Mascoutah and the surrounding towns, the first church, made of brick and timber, had a capacity of 60 families. The parishioners began the education of the children two years after the founding of the church. With the growing Catholic communities in the area, this first church was quickly outgrown and replaced in 1882 by the considerably large, beautiful church we still use today.
