Absolutely stunning photos!
We ended up hiring Derek because we was an incredibly talented and experienced wedding photographer, fairly priced, and generally a nice man who made us laugh. We felt comfortable around him and like we had known him for ages, yet he still maintained professionalism.

Derek truly wanted what was best for us, and this shone through everything he did for us
We found Derek from attending a wedding fair. From the get go, he was friendly and knowledgeable. On that day, he told me “the person you spend most of your wedding day with, apart from your partner, is your photographer, so it’s important you get on with the person you hire, even if that’s not me”. We ended up hiring Derek because we was an incredibly talented and experienced wedding photographer, fairly priced, and generally a nice man who made us laugh. We felt comfortable around him and like we had known him for ages, yet he still maintained professionalism. The package we booked included a pre-wedding photoshoot, where we met for an hour to practise poses and discuss ideas of the big day. When doing some more intimate poses, Derek always checked to see if me and my partner were happy to carry on. This was not something I had thought of before, but on reflection, made us feel safe and respected. Derek truly wanted what was best for us, and this shone through everything he did for us. It helped us to feel more confident going into the wedding day. We also met with Derek via video call to discuss our vision for photos, and completed questionnaires so he was able to fully understand what we wanted from him. Fast forward to the wedding day, and Derek was, as per usual, brilliant. The ability to make you feel relaxed and laugh ahead of your wedding day is one that not a lot of photographers will possess. Derek did not only take absolutely stunning photographs of us, our friends and family, and the wedding day itself, but also helped to herd people from A-B for reception drinks, our confetti tunnel and sparkler run. My wife and I aren’t planning on getting divorced any time soon, but if we were, we would both go back to Derek to do our next wedding shots!

More appreciated than I can possibly say
I could write pages on how happy both my husband I were working with Derek on our special day. Throughout the whole process he was entirely professional and so attentive. He had us both at ease from the get-go and had us very excited about our photos. In the run up to our big day he made sure he got a good feel for what we were looking for and that any questions etc. that we had were answered. Never once did I have to go chasing him up which is a blessing when you’re organising a wedding! On the day in question Derek had everyone at ease with his warm and welcoming personality. Laughter and smiles from everyone he interacted with. Right from the off you could see how prepared he was, even thinking of smaller details that I had forgotten but maid all the difference when it came to the photos. In terms of herding everyone for the group photos, he was quick and efficient while also making sure that my husband and I had moments to breath and take things in which was more appreciated than I can possibly say. Derek was with us the whole day and I truly do not have words to express how blown away both my husband and I were with our photos. We’re still struggling to pick which ones to get printed because we love them all! Derek’s attention to detail is something all brides will appreciate because the day goes by so fast and looking back at these photos I get reminded of all sorts of little moments and pieces of the day which is something so special. I could not recommend Derek more to anyone looking for a photographer. You will not regret having him in charge of capturing your special day.

This is the best photographer in the city of Nottingham.
This is the best photographer in the city of Nottingham. My American family fell in love with this man... so much that I almost thought I would have a new dad by the end of the night. He made my day so special, me and my wife were so comfortable around Derek. When we went away with him for photos during the day it was like a comfort for it to be us 3 having a quiet moment taking amazing pictures. If approved I will name my first born child after him!! Jokes aside… Our day wouldn’t have been the same without him and I am glad my wife found him.

Derek was a Star
The moment we met derek at the wedding fair we knew we wanted him to be there capturing our day. He was easy to talk to and discuss our wedding plans with and also had some great suggestion’s. We would highly recommend derek to any couples who are looking for a talented, friendly, fun and loud photographer full of personality!. Derek was a star on the day and helped us all have fun in a slightly stressful time and get some amazing photos. Derek captured some amazing photos, from natural lighted too backlit night shots and even some smoke ones too. The photos were really easy to access on his website, for both us and our guests. Highly recommend

Fantastic character and an even better photographer.
From the very start Derek was absolutely amazing. I don't think we could have picked a better photographer or person to be in charge of capturing our day. Fantastic character and an even better photographer. Can't thank him enough for his commitment from start to finish. Will most definitely be recommending him to everyone we come across and hopefully enjoy his work again for any future events. If he isn't too busy. Thank you again!

Derek was fantastic!
What can you say about Derek. Well he is very very good at his job. We hired him to do our wedding photos. Derek was fantastic, from the start he was cheerful talkative and very easy to get along with. Definitely knows his trade. He caught the whole atmosphere of the event. We would most definitely recommend him if you are after a professional service from the very start all the way through to receiving your finished photos

Derek is an excellent photographer who took beautiful photographs of our wedding. His good humour and professionalism made him a delight to work with before the wedding and a capable pair of hands during it. His photos really have the wow! factor. We were delighted!

What is your most memorable wedding?

Honestly, it would have to be my own. There was nearly 2 feet of snow on the ground, in the middle of rural Ireland. They had to get one of the local farmers to tractor open the road to the venue - we almost didn't manage to get there. When we did though it was amazing. On the banks of a loch, in the snow and (right after the ceremony) an almighty snowball fight (the 6'7 water-polo player landed a snowball right on the 93 year old granny..... there was a moment of panic on everyone's face until granny grinned evilly, grabbed a huge handful of snow and lobbed a snowball right back at him.... Good times)

Describe your style in 5 adjectives.

Fun, Adventurous, Classic, Memorable, Storytelling

What about your business are you most proud of?

I suppose the thing I'm most proud of is that I catch the moments of people's joy. The tear in the eye as dad sees his daughter in her dress for the first time, the nervous expectation of the groom as he waits for his bride, the look of delight as the couple share their first kiss, and that first walk down the aisle is a newly marries couple. These are moments which happen so very rarely in someone's life but I'm there to catch that moment - and you can look back at the photograph and relive that memory forever. To have that as my job is one heck of a privilege.

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

This is your day, play it by your own rules. There is no "right way" that you must follow - do it however appeals to you.

What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?

One of my favourite weddings was on a 1940s Make do and Mend theme - the couple were friends of a collector and had access to one of the last 2 flying DeHavilland Moth aeroplanes (a biplane from about 1925). It made for a glorious backdrop in photos and the wedding party were super fun as they engaged with it.

Describe your typical process with a couple.

I like to meet my couples, ideally with a face to face or zoom session. We work through the day, what the special moments are, whether there are any themes or specific details that we need to capture. As we get closer to the big day I like to take my couples on a pre-wedding shoot where we get the chance to try out different styles, and poses. You get the chance to get used to being in front of the camera and it helps remove the (fairly commonplace) apprehension of being photographed. I'll help you with some basic poses, and such details as what to do with your hands (Boys, in particular, almost always struggle with their hands at first .... we can help) Fundamentally though we'll just have fun and get used to each other's company. On the big day itself. I'll be there to capture all the special moments and do my very best to tell the unique story of your love for one another. It will be a blast!

What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?

Honestly there's no #1 photograph. Every couple is different, every wedding is unique. I'll work with you to find the best photographs that work for you and your partner.

What is the most original photo you’ve been asked to take at a wedding?

I have a fabulous shot from a pre-wedding shoot of the bride leaping out the window of the church ( an old 12th century ruin near Colston Basset) whilst the groom looks on - it's hilarious.

What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?

Honestly, from a photography perspective rain can be amazing. You can get glorious backlit shots, raindrops frozen in the air, drama in the sky and some fabulous reflections. Of course you also risk getting a trifle damp. If rain threatens then a couple of white umbrellas can really help to make sure you're protected from the worst of the elements (and can look great in a photo too)

Describe how you got into photography.

I started off doing photography for friends (mainly Cosplay and Live Role Play type stuff) I dallied into landscape but it didn't float my boat. My area of expertise was definitely people. I learned how to pose people and how to get the best angles for them and their characters and it morphed into a career. I still do photography for fun as well - I've done Film Noir style, Hollywood Glamour, some Post-Apocalyptic stuff. For me the joy is in the telling of the story and the pictures help me do that.
