Hi there! I'm Laura Babb, but my friends call me Babb. I'm an award-winning wedding and family photographer based in Birmingham and working across the UK. When I'm not behind the lens, you can find me stomping around the countryside, admiring the beauty of uninterrupted horizons, windswept landscapes, and desolate beaches. I'm also a lover of rolling hills, trig points, the light at dusk and dawn, starry skies, and pine forests. In my free time, I enjoy folk music, appreciating art and architecture, teaching meditation, and I'm also studying to become a counsellor. s a photographer, my biggest inspiration is the art of storytelling. I believe that every person and every event has a unique story to tell, and my goal is to capture those stories through my lens. Whether it's a wedding, a family portrait, or a simple moment in time, I strive to capture real emotions and authentic expressions that reflect the true essence of the people in the images. My hope is that, through my photography, I can help preserve and share these stories for generations to come. What is your most memorable wedding?
My most memorable weddings are always the ones where couples focus on having a day that really reflects who they are as people. They're usually relaxed, joyful, and full of opportunities to really connect with the people who are important to them.
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
Unobtrusive, creative, story-led, joyful, fun.
What about your business are you most proud of?
If you'd asked me this a few years ago I might have referred you to awards and accolades but that's shifted a lot in recent years. I'm honoured that I get to document the connection my couples share with each other and also with the people who are important to them.
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Don't let planning consume you! Being engaged is an incredibly special time. Take some time to enjoy it.
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
I'm always really moved by the things people do to honour the loved ones they've lost. One of my favourite pictures is of a top table at a wedding breakfast where everyone is laughing and having a joyful time and there's a picture of the bride's father on the front of the table. He'd passed away a few months before the wedding but he was still a huge part of the day.
Describe your typical process with a couple.
We'll typically start with a chat to where I can find out a bit more about you and what you're looking for. I'll tell you a bit more about me and my style and if we're a good fit for each other we can get you booked in. From there I'll offer support and guidance as you move through your planning process if you need it; I'm here to support you in any way I can. Around three months before the wedding we'll kick of the planning process; I'll get you to fill out my planing form with timings etc and then we can have a planning chat to go through everything. After the wedding I typically send some preview images within a couple of weeks, then you'll receive the full set of beautifully edited images from your day.
What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?
I don't think any one photo is more important than any other. My aim is always to tell the story of the day from start to finish. All of the 'big' moments will be in there but I also aim to capture the in between moments that happen along the way.
What is the most original photo you’ve been asked to take at a wedding?
There was a side-quest to take a photo on Tower Bridge that involved the car driver illegally stopping, me almost not making it back to the car, and some joyful singing along to very loud music all the way back to the reception... ask me about it when we chat!
What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?
Embracing it! We can do your group shots inside, but it's really nice to grab umbrellas and embrace the weather for your portraits if you're up for it.
Describe how you got into photography.
Completely by accident. Although I found out after my grandad passed away that photography was his passion. We found boxes of his pictures in his loft, along with a beautiful rangefinder camera. I like to think I inherited my passion from photography from him.
