I didn't want to be a wedding photographer!
I never liked the style of what I saw as wedding photography. Light and airy, overly-posed, editorial style perfect photos; or perfectly flash-lit, over-edited shots of a bride and groom in an obviously fabricated embrace. Meh. Not for me. Fun couples who are looking for alternative, unconventional wedding photography want natural, photos of their day, and portraits that aren't staged. If that's you, get in touch!

Andrew Heeley Photography Full Description
I LOVE A GOOD STORY I'm a creative and alternative wedding photographer, based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire and I travel the country taking photos to tell couples’ stories. From Wales, the Lake District, Manchester, Hampshire, to the four counties of Yorkshire so far. My couples describe me as ‘different to the others’, I describe me as friendly, Yorkshire-made, sarcastic, and caffeine-fuelled. YOU: THE UNCONVENTIONAL TYPE If you’re here, you’re looking for natural photography of your wedding. A candid, reportage-style approach that gives you an album of genuine, relaxed photographs of your family and friends, alongside some fun, creative shots of you two having an amazing time together - in most cases laughing at how awkward you might look (it’s ok, you never look awkward). I don’t pose my couples and I absolutely love working with couples who are a bit camera shy, but like to have a laugh - they make the most amazing photos. If that all sounds like you - then we’re a match!

His photographs are amazing.
Andrew is very personable and professional - we had an engagement shoot with him about 6 months before our wedding, and liked him immediately. His vibe is very chilled and his energy very calming. He’s very passionate about what he does and this also comes across. On top of being a genuinely nice person, his photographs are amazing and have captured our day perfectly. We will be recommending him to everyone we know!

Andrew was amazing.
We had nerves about been in front of a camera but Andrew was amazing and made us feel so comfortable on the engagement shoot and when he shot our wedding we didn't even notice he was there (I mean that in the best way). We have just got our photos back and it was a joy to go through them all!!

King of the Candid
Andrew is king of the candid. We had considered not getting a photographer at all, since we hate the artificial group shots that can dominate valuable party time. However, Andrew worked his magic to ensure that his photos captured the spirit of the day. Without being invasive or demanding, he recorded the special moments in his signature vintage, natural style. More than that, he is a genuinely nice guy who navigated the wedding party with an unassuming confidence.

The portraits were amazing
I can’t recommend Andrew highly enough. We had a really small ceremony with only 6 guests and initially we were worried about having a photographer in with us in such a small intimate space. Andrew blended in perfectly, and the photos were absolutely stunning. They captured the little moments so so well and gave us such a lasting memory of a day that went by in a flash.

We really can't recommend Andrew highly enough
We really can't recommend Andrew highly enough - choosing a wedding photographer felt like an incredibly daunting task but something clicked right away with Andrew, he's incredibly chill and has a dry sense of humour that puts you at ease right away. We did an engagement photoshoot with him first which was so helpful for experiencing being in front of the camera, and also just getting to know each other a bit better (you see a lot of your photographer on your wedding day!).

Andrew understood the vibe immediately
Andrew was fantastic, this was our first time getting married, we were taking more of relaxed approach. Andrew understood the vibe immediately. I have never been great in front of a camera, struggle to naturally smile, Andrew managed this so well, that we never felt awkward the entire day. From the very first zoom call Andrew had a calm tone, which made us feel comfortable and everything was easy from that point onwards. Our photos are just amazing.

Andrew’s would suit our industrial Brewery wedding
Andrew photographed our wedding in June & we love the results! We were looking for someone to document our day in a relaxed way and the photos are exactly what we wanted, with all the little moments captured. We knew Andrew’s style would suit our industrial Brewery wedding, and he didn’t disappoint! My husband isn’t keen on being in front of the camera but we both felt relaxed around Andrew, and during the special moments we didn’t realise he was there, in the best way.

Andrew was extremely warm and friendly making us feel very comfortable during our photography session. He is a very talented individual with a keen eye for the perfect photo, we would highly recommend him if you are looking for someone who can capture photos that you will look at with a smile for years to come.

Natural, fun and friendly
Andrew did not disappoint! My guests commented that they barely noticed he was there and he captured every one of the cherished moments through the day. I cannot recommend him enough and will sing his praises to anyone wanting a natural style of photography and a fun, friendly photographer!

FAQs
Find out a bit more from our FAQs

What is your most memorable wedding?

Absolutely has to be a wedding during 2020, despite all the obstacles, it was an amazing day - the couple, family and all the suppliers worked so hard to make it great. I found myself fixing fascinators and lacing the bride's dress, all whilst taking the prep photos!

Describe your style in 5 adjectives.

Fun, candid, authentic, creative, natural

What about your business are you most proud of?

I love telling stories through photography. I'm proud that I've found my style in the wedding industry and it sets me apart from others.

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Choose your photographer early and get them involved in planning your timeline. You're going to want some beautiful photos of each other and you together and having time means there's less stress!

What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?

Couple portraits in an antique shop - because that's how the couple met!

Describe your typical process with a couple.

After a read through my client guide, I'll chat to the couple in person or via FaceTime/Zoom. I love meeting the couple for a pre-wedding shoot to get to know them a little better and understand how they find being in front of the camera - usually this helps people get used to me too and we find the experience to be great fun.

What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?

One 'semi-posed' story photo that says a lot about their theme and their day. My favourite was a musical couple, who loved live music, and booked their reception in the venue where they first met. We managed to get them access to a secret backroom rehearsal area for photos with the instruments!

What is the most original photo you’ve been asked to take at a wedding?

I tend to take the lead on photography, which means my couples leave it to me to take original photos at every wedding. From micro-weddings with a 'street photography' edge, to full day coverage, I try to inject some creativity and something new into every wedding, it makes it more fun.

What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?

Bring umbrellas and don't mind me, my camera will cope! There's some amazing reflections and the colours look amazing in the rain. Alternatively, leave me to come up with a plan - indoor photos are just as good, who needs natural light!

Describe how you got into photography.

I've been taking photographs from being a child (about 30 years). My first 'proper' camera I got hold of when I was 12 and shot film. Despite loving it, and taking some amazing street photos and shots of my own family, I never thought about doing it professionally until 2019.
