Altimate Photography Full Description
This year Altimate Images Photography reach a milestone of 20 years in the industry. John, photographer at Altimate, loved photography from a young age and he developed his own black and white photographs in the dark room cellar of his parents house in West Yorkshire. As a teenager he continued to master the art of black and white photography and developing with the help of his older brother. In the late 80's John's passion for images took him to do studies in Dewsbury where he excelled at both video photography, editing and film photography. Leaving his photography passion in 1988 for a few years he returned to it in 1994 and decided he should like to make photography his full time career. John had worked in lighting for 7 years for First Leisure Corporation but decided to leave this reliable income and ventured into the unknown early in 1995 starting Altimate Images with a friend. Later in 1995 John went full time as a photographer and finally left his job in 1996 to become sole proprietor at Altimate Images. In 1999 John started to toy with the idea of shooting on digital. Up to that point he had been shooting on both 35mm and medium format film stock and using his skills in photoshop to manipulate and edit images that had been scanned in. Digital cameras in the early 'naughties' were cumbersome and poor quality but John could see the potential these cameras would bring. Finally in 2003 Canon released the 10D and from that time john has not used a roll of film. Rachel, his wife later joined on a part time basis and became album designer as the advantages of digital took the business from strength to strength. Now over 700 weddings of experience John, Rachel, Mark and of course young James are looking forward to the next 20 years of business success.

FAQs
Find out a bit more from our FAQs

What is your most memorable wedding?

Wow, so many memorable weddings we could write a book. Most memorable... my own and the wedding of our best friends. Nothing compares to seeing those you love the most starting the wonderful journey of life together.

Describe your style in 5 adjectives.

Professional, Timeless, Reportage, Traditional & Heartwarming

What about your business are you most proud of?

We are most proud of our longevity, our amazing sack full of wonderful reviews and the fact that our customers seem to love writing them. We are also proud of our personal service and the satisfaction of 100% reliability.

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Talk to John! He has seen everything and can give so much useful information! (Oh and don't drink too much).

What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?

A merging of 2 established families where stepmum and stepdad to be said vows to the children. So beautiful and meaningful and we were in tears of joy. Very touching.

Describe your typical process with a couple.

And give our secrets away? Never! Get in touch and we will spill the beans.

What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?

A natural photo that shows the raw emotion of this beautiful event!

What is the most original photo you’ve been asked to take at a wedding?

So many of the photos that were once 'original' now seem old hat as they get repeated again and again. Every year new ideas come to the surface and are then put back to bed as they are no longer fresh. Our aim is photos that do not look 'naff' 10 years from now with a hint of fresh ideas. A favourite for us is a kiss behind an umbrella in silhouette because it can be done at any wedding.

What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?

Extra time and umbrellas (and if possible a vast mansion with sweeping staircases and a butler with a brolly when needed ;)

Describe how you got into photography.

When I was a kid we built a darkroom in the cellar.
