What is your most memorable wedding?
My Las Vegas Bride and Groom. I made a replica of the Yellow polka dot 50's style Wedding dress for their little daughter. She loved the dress so much she kissed the mirror! Photo's on my website www.wendyjonas.co.uk !
What about your business are you most proud of?
Being still in business after 25 years and still loving it!
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
It is nice to have advice and help from friends and family, but do what YOU want to do and wear what YOU want to wear. It is your wedding, after all.
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
I am sometimes asked to embroider the Bride and Grooms initials somewhere on the dress. I have also beaded a belt to match some jewellery that a Groom bought for his fiance. And embroidered a bear(!) onto a Grooms waistcoat, to match a necklace that he had bought her (a Native American themed wedding.)
Describe your typical process with a couple.
Over a coffee, I will chat to the Bride about styles of wedding dresses that she likes and come up with a design that incorporates all of her favourite design features. The next stage is the toile (a calico mock-up of her dress) before cutting the dress out in silk. Then as many silk fittings as required to create her dream dress.
What do you love most about your job?
Designing a truly personal bespoke dress for a Bride that no-one else will wear and creating her dream dress. Making a Bride feel special on her wedding day!
What is your favourite style of wedding dress?
I love the 50's style tea dresses; elegant "Red carpet" sexy styles that are backless; fitted fishtail dresses; I love lace; corset styles ; pink/silver/gold dresses...Too much choice, no, I can't decide...I love them all!!!
What is the best way to incorporate "Something Blue" into the wedding outfit?
A blue bow on the garter or sewn into the dress.
What is your favourite wedding dress of all time?
My own! Silver dress with magenta pink hair...truly personal!
