What is your most memorable wedding?
My first wedding as an independent venue stylist was for an organisation called Wedding Day Angel who co ordinate dream weddings for couples facing terminal illness. I helped decorate both the ceremony and reception venue over 3 days and to meet both the organiser who has breast cancer and the bride with stage 2 breast cancer was an extremely humbling experience which will remain an inspiration to me forever.
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
Eclectic, Bespoke, creative, vibrant, alternative
What about your business are you most proud of?
I love the fact i have found a little niche in the market for my quirky little business and an outlet for my busy mind. Seeing people smile at my work or say wow as they enter a room i have just decorated is the best feeling ever.
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Find suppliers you love. Meet up with or regularly chat to the people who will be involved in your big day, if you love what they do and you click on a personal level it makes that bit of magic happen and you are both working towards the same goal..giving you a day to remember for the rest of your lives.
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
To date it had to be the simple nod to the grooms love of fishing i created in May 2019. Stylish handmade 3D fish on gold rods as table numbers looked amazingly effective amongst vintage glass vases and candlesticks.
Describe your typical process with a couple.
I have different approaches depending on the location of the couple, for long distance couples (australia, malaysia and belgium in 2019) as well as further afield in the Uk i might never meet these until a few days before or even the day of the wedding so its essential i communicate a lot with visual images via whatsapp or email so i can build a rapport with them and they can see i have totally got their vision.
Local couples i would invite along to my showroom which is a bit of an aladdins cave and there we can get hands on pulling decor items off the shelves and create the perfect look. If i dont have some items they want i will either source or handmake them.
What is the best themed wedding you have worked at?
Alice in wonderland is one of my favourites as it holds so many childhood memories so to theme a wedding is just so much fun. I handmake all the items and my pride and joy is a giant croquet set with flamingo mallets, playing card hoops, cheshire cat sign and hedgehog balls. So much fun.
What are the decorative trends with brides currently?
Boho luxe and blush pinks with gold and greens are the big trends at the moment. But couples still love the rustic vibe so i think that will be around to stay.
What is your signature finishing touch?
Every wedding is bespoke so inevitably something will have been handmade especially to finish the look.
What decoration do you think every wedding needs?
Signature lighting whether that be festoon, fairy or neon but lights are a great way to change any space and make it bespoke to you.
