What is your most memorable wedding?
I spent every Christmas as a child in Otterburn so when I was asked to create a cake for Woodhill Hall I was very excited to return to this lovely Northumberland village. Woodhill Hall is a beautiful venue, they were holding a wedding open morning while I was setting up the cake so I got to look around the beautiful rooms and the teepee in the Garden. I loved the vintage cake the bride and myself designed together, a soft buttercream colour with an antique tea cup and saucer as a topper, I picked the colours in the cup to use in the beads and for the ribbons and for the handmade flowers that filled the cup. The cake was set up in the entrance hall at the foot of the staircase and it looked amazing!
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
Classical, contemporary, detailed, vintage, stunning.
What about your business are you most proud of?
The fact that most of my business comes from recommendations.
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Choose a cake that's compatible with the style of the venue, the season, your gown, the flower arrangements, or the menu. If you want colourful accents (such as sugar flowers or icing ribbons), give your baker fabric swatches.
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
Confetti cones made from the music score from the first dance.
Describe your typical process with a couple.
After an initial phonecall or email conversation, I have the pleasure of meeting the couple, discussing their wedding plans, style of wedding, venue, colour scheme etc. I discuss options regarding their cake, size, design, colour and then to the nitty gritty of the big day and ensuring that I have a clear plan for the set up and display of the cake.
