What is your most memorable wedding?
I have so many memorable weddings because of the people who were part of it but one of my most was at the start of my career when one of my brides was taking part in Four Weddings and I had to work with a film crew.
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
elegant, personal, adaptable, pretty, glamorous
What about your business are you most proud of?
I would say how much the business has grown in the last few years despite me fitting in three babies!
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Book your "one day" suppliers as early and in advance as you can - things such as venue, photographer, hair stylist, make up artist - they usually can only accommodate one wedding per day, I have to turn lots of enquiries away as I haven't yet found a way to split myself in half.
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
One of my recent brides was a nanny, she was also travelling up to Scotland for her wedding so a lot of the children she has cared and nurtured couldn't make it so a group of her friends hired a professional videographer and made a short film of them all wishing her good luck and personal messages which was shown to her after the meal. I don't think there would have been a dry eye in the house and it means some of her personality and life could be encapsulated into the wedding.
Describe your typical process with a couple.
At the trial I will sit down with my client and run through a series of questions so I can understand a bit about their wedding, style and what sort of look they wish to achieve. We will go through colours and a lot of photos before a make up brush touches their face. I always make sure the bride is 100% happy before they leave. After many years in the industry I can tell straight away when the client is totally happy or has a little niggle. Make Up is so subjective and most of the time all it takes is one wee tweak and you see their eyes light up!
What do you love most about your job?
Meeting lots of new people and being able to be part of one of the most special days of their life. I have met so many lovely brides, a few of them I have kept in touch with and become firm friends!
What is your No. 1 beauty tip for a bride?
Drink lots of water, people always underestimate the importance of water. I can always spot a well hydrated bride a mile off.
How do you keep the bride feeling calm on her wedding day?
I always tell the bride that the 30 mins they sit in the make up chair will be the most calming and relaxing point of the day. Getting your make up done is like a mini spa treatment and I find people just automatically zone out. Another reason to book a make-up artist for your big day!
What advice would you give to brides to stay looking great throughout their wedding day?
My advice is to book me and the girls to help get you ready. The styles we create are long lasting and durable even after a round of ceilidh dancing! (we have proof!)
