What is your most memorable wedding?
Sam - I have a sentimental attachment to Sams wedding as she's a good friend. We became friends through jive classes and styling her hair. To be asked to style her and her bridal party's hair was an absolute honour. She wanted something 20s inspired, which is one of my favourite eras to style, and we laughed and cried in equal measure.
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
Unique, vintage, glamorous, elegant, timeless
What about your business are you most proud of?
I have grown it from a glimmer of an idea in my head 12 years ago whilst working full time in a completely different field. Pin Up Curl is now my full time career and I love it. I'm very lucky
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Decide on your priorities for your wedding, no one else's, and book your chosen suppliers early to avoid disappointment!
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
A mother of the bride giving her daughter her mothers necklace to wear. I had to look away from such a private and bittersweet moment
Describe your typical process with a couple.
After the initial enquiry we will chat online or by phone about what the bride is looking for, her dress and headpiece, and hair type. We will then book a trial and I will advise if the chosen styles will be right for the bride to be. After the trial we discuss any changes and the rest of the bridal parties hair.. On the day I will arrive at a pre determined time to style everyone in time for the ceremony. I regularly stay to help with anything that needs doing - helping with your dress, shoes, bouquet and either slipping away quietly or giving good luck hugs, whatever the situation demands! Once it is determined that your date is available I take a £50 deposit to secure your date, and taking outstanding payments 4 weeks before the wedding.
What do you love most about your job?
Helping to make many brides feel that they look like the very best version of themselves
What is your No. 1 beauty tip for a bride?
Be true to yourself. Don't try to look like someone different. Be you.
How do you keep the bride feeling calm on her wedding day?
Reassuring words, telling them that if a certain thing hasn't been done it doesn't matter, everything she needs is right there. Being attentive to her and assessing how she's feeling and adapting any schedules so that she feels calmer. Advising breathing exercises if needed, and sometimes they are! Just being my friendly and bubbly self, and making them feel like they are in good hands.
What advice would you give to brides to stay looking great throughout their wedding day?
Any good make up artist and hair stylist will have been a big part of this anyway. Professionally applied make up should stay put, professionally styled hair should withstand all the hugs and dancing during the day. But, to be cliched, beauty really does come from within. The best way to look great all day is smile, be happy, be in love, enjoy every moment.
