Jack & Sarah - A Wedding That Blended Meaning and Joy at Tythe, Launton

Jack and Sarah chose Tythe, a stunning countryside venue in the village of Launton, Oxfordshire, for a wedding that blended centuries-old tradition with modern romance. Looking back at their search for the perfect wedding venue, Jack recalls, ”Tythe stood out as soon as we walked through the front door. It had beautiful gardens, and we could picture our guests enjoying a drink in the summer sun.

Known for its thoughtful details and beautifully curated spaces, Tythe is a family-run venue with more than 500 years of history, carrying a sense of meaning that invites guests to slow down and be fully present. For this wedding, that presence was everything.

A Lovely Wedding Weekend at the Perfect Countryside Venue

Arriving the day before, the couple spent time with close family and friends at The Farmhouse, Tythe’s countryside escape, which offers boutique interiors infused with effortless style. “The Farmhouse was such a special part of our wedding!” Sarah remembers. “The accommodation in the Farmhouse is absolutely stunning – I could tell how impressed everyone was when we were showing them to their rooms, and one of my friends has since said it is the nicest accommodation he’s ever seen for a wedding.”

With a mix of antiques and contemporary furnishings, guests could sink into sofas by open fires, sip cocktails in the outdoor hot tub, or dine beneath giant crystal chandeliers.

Slowing Down Before the Big Day

Sarah and Jack eased into their wedding weekend rather than rushing toward it, enjoying an afternoon of tennis and an informal supper the night before.  “The night before my wedding I had a luxurious bath in the freestanding copper tub (complete with a bath bomb I had bought for the occasion) and read my book, which was the perfect way to relax before the wedding,” Sarah adds. On the morning of the wedding, guests shared breakfast around the long farmhouse table.

Getting Ready in Thoughtfully Designed Spaces

The wedding day began with the bride’s preparations in one of Tythe’s dedicated dressing rooms – The Nook.  Sarah’s first outfit was a red qi pao for their tea ceremony and Sarah highlights how it was “made to measure by East Meets Dress and I loved it so much.”

The groom, in a navy suit and red tie, prepped in The Courtroom, a space inspired by a gentleman’s club, complete with vintage leather armchairs, soft lighting, deep charcoal walls, a Pool table and sumptuous red velvet.

A Traditional Tea Ceremony Rich in Symbolism

Celebrations commenced with a tea ceremony in the Cowshed, with its honeyed stone walls and elegant timber beams. As tradition unfolded, the couple knelt to offer tea to their elders.  This is to “demonstrate respect and symbolise the union of the two families,” Jack explains.

“Traditionally, the elder relatives then give red envelopes containing money, and words of encouragement and wisdom to the couple.”  Red accents were mirrored in the teapots, cups, kneeling cushions, and decorations.

A Sustainable Approach to Style and Ceremony

Later, the bride changed into a traditional white dress, an exquisite charity shop find, while bridesmaids were encouraged to pick a dress they felt comfortable in and would wear again. Sustainability was important to me for the wedding” Sarah notes.

The bridesmaids in soft, trending shades of blue led the walk along Tythe’s wisteria-lined aisle for an outdoor civil ceremony.

Dining, Details, and Thoughtful Touches

Dinner followed in the 14th-century barn, where tables were adorned with seasonal florals and thrifted, well-loved books, making the space feel both curated and comfortable.

My favourite detail on the table was stacks of secondhand books in colours that matched the wedding flowers… I thrifted them all and guests could take them home as favours.”  Sarah explains.

Ending the Day with Celebration and Joy

The evening began with games in the walled garden, cocktails, croquet on the lawn, and a Ceilidh band. Jack points out, “Sarah and I enjoyed Ceilidh dances at Cambridge university!”

Later, resident guests retired back to The Farmhouse to rest tired feet and share stories on a day rooted in heritage, filled with joy, and hosted by a venue that delivered an incredible wedding with its signature ease and expertise.
