Perched atop a hill in the picturesque Dargle Valley, The Cairn of Old Kilgobbin is a serene retreat on a historic Irish settler farm. Surrounded by lush green paddocks and a vast indigenous forest, it’s an ideal spot for couples who want a wedding deeply connected to nature. The farm itself is 132 years old and named after a nearby 1,200-year-old castle near Dublin, adding a romantic, historic charm to your celebration.

The Cairn’s wedding approach focuses on creating a meaningful, stress-free experience. Designed for intimate, daylight celebrations between 8 am and 6 pm, the venue lets you and your guests fully enjoy the stunning countryside views, meet the majestic Friesian horses, and soak in the calm rhythms of farm life. The name “The Cairn” honors the Irish tradition of building stone landmarks to mark important journeys—just like your marriage.

The Cairn is a spacious home set within expansive gardens, perfect for small weddings and celebrations. It can comfortably host up to 100 guests and offers flexible layouts to suit your group size. Past wedding packages have included full planning support, decor, setup, flowers, and on-the-day coordination to make your event seamless and special.

On-Site Accommodation

For you and your closest family or wedding party, Old Kilgobbin offers charming self-catering cottages that create a cozy, private gathering space. Together, these cottages can accommodate up to 14 guests:

• The Cairn: A large two-bedroom home sleeping up to six guests, centrally located in the farmyard.
• Gobbins' Cottage: A spacious three-bedroom cottage for up to six guests, featuring a full kitchen and a cozy lounge with a fireplace.
• The Chicken Coop: A quaint Victorian-style one-bedroom cottage ideal for two guests, with its own kitchen nook and private veranda.

The Natural Setting

Set on a sprawling 160-hectare farm, this venue is a dream for nature lovers. Home to the Kilgobbin Friesian stud, you’ll often see beautiful black horses grazing nearby. The farm is also rich in wildlife, including reedbuck, the endangered oribi antelope, and samango monkeys. Birdwatchers will delight in spotting over 150 species, such as the Cape Parrot and three types of cranes—offering countless opportunities for unforgettable moments and stunning wedding photos.
