As new territories were conquered by the Romans, citizens of such conquered territories lost their legal standing and rights under the Roman Law. Some, though, were classified as free provincial subjects of the Roman Law, who, through perseverance and hard work, long term services to Rome and special grant, were granted certain rights initially, who eventually awarded them the right to become Roman Citizens with full rights.
