Description

After it became an authorised venue, we have started offering wedding breaks at Melmerby Hall over the last year or so but have not started to advertise this on a wider scale basis and we do not have a standard brochure, nor are we really sure that we would like to have such a thing, as we do not see ourselves as offering a set of standard wedding packages. We do not anticipate becoming a major commercial wedding venue preferring instead to remain more personal and smaller scale in terms of numbers of weddings. We offer wedding breaks with a minimum of a three night stay at Melmerby Hall and do not offer single night bookings. Melmerby Hall is 5* rated by Visit England and has also won a Gold Award for outstanding quality in all areas, particularly with respect to guest service.  The Hall accommodates 18 guests in nine bedrooms and, together with its adjoining three bedroom cottage called Stag Cottage, 24 guests may be accommodated in 12 ensuite bedrooms. We also have another cottage set within the former walled orchard garden of Melmerby Hall called Kirkbride Hall which has another four double bedrooms allowing a total of 32 guests to be accommodated at Melmerby Hall and its cottages. We have an archery lawn in the gardens which is well suited to a marquee or tipis. Smaller parties can be easily accommodated in the four main reception rooms all of which interconnect (the Georgian Drawing Room, the oak panelled Library, the formal Dining Room and the family Living Room). Melmerby Hall is set within 25 acres of our private woodland & is walking distance to the village of Melmerby which has our local pub, The Shepherd's Inn, a village shop, a little antiques shop and The Old Village Bakery which serves breakfasts, lunches, coffees, homemade bread and cakes and has a lovely ladies fashion, interior and gift shop upstairs called 'Hollberrie' which is definitely worth a visit to support local independent retailing!

We loved our stay at Melmerby Hall (Oct 2020) and couldn't recommend it highly enough for a large group stay
We loved our stay at Melmerby Hall (Oct 2020) and couldn't recommend it highly enough for a large group stay.. We had our wedding at the Hall and used a caterer, Lynn Hilditch, and hairdresser, Chloe's Hair and Beauty, who comes recommended by the Hall.. Everyone involved including Joanna and Christine took the stress out of our weekend, especially because of the Covid situation. They were able to help set everything up so social distancing could be observed and helped us on the wedding day.. The little extras that come in the welcome hamper were much appreciated and a wonderful addition to the stay.. All the reception rooms were set up ready for our arrival with open fires, dining table ready for our finishing touches and the bedrooms/bathroom were spotless.. Melmerby Hall is a beautiful property in stunning surroundings, you won't be disappointed if you book to stay here.

Our Wedding at Melmerby Hall
Our Wedding at Melmerby Hall. We had the most amazing wedding stay at Melmerby Hall and literally couldn't rate it more highly. From my first contact with Cristine it has been the most wonderful experience. Joanna was our wedding organiser and talked us through every step required and recommended the most brilliant suppliers who we referred to as the A Team. We stayed four nights at the Hall getting married on day three. The Hall is stunning, full of character, charm and elegance whilst also feeling so homely, the grounds are amazing and are a fantastic backdrop for a wedding. We hired the Hall and Stag Cottage and they were so well equipped - brought a whole new concept to self catering. The wedding was magical and I want to say a massive thank you to lynn Hilditch who did our stunning wedding breakfast as well as drop off food and stone baked pizzas during our stay, Alison from Yewbarrow Flower farm who grew and created the most wonderful wedding flowers and Debbie Walker who did our hair and make-up, I honestly have never felt more special. Breakfast from the Old Village bakery. Thank you all for creating the most special day for Mark and I. We will be back.

A wonderfully special, personal wedding venue!
We got married at Melmerby in June 2022 and hired Melmerby Hall and Stag cottage for our wedding weekend. I am a local girl so getting married in my home village was very special and Melmerby Hall was such a central part of our whole wedding. It’s such a personal, private venue with that allows so much scope for a DIY wedding which we wanted and having the whole venue to ourselves for four days allowed us to really host the perfect wedding weekend. We got married in the village church which is connected to the Grounds of Melmerby Hall via a private gate. We then had our drinks reception in the grounds of Melmerby Hall. The setting is just beautiful and the house itself is incredible, beautiful bedrooms and awesome billiards room and the ground floor reception space is fab. All our guests loved staying there and exploring my home village. We also hired Melmerby Village Hall for our wedding breakfast and ceilidh dancing which is just a few feet from Melmerby Hall entrance making it such a perfect place to host a wedding! Jo, Christine and all the team at Rowley Estates are wonderful to work with and really make the whole process very easy!

Everything was perfect!
We booked Melmerby for a small family wedding and it was the most amazing experience. The location is perfect. The hall is beautiful and was the perfect backdrop for our wedding photos. On the morning of our wedding we walked though the gardens and the private gated archway to the local church and returned for champagne on the lawn moments later. The beautiful interior, with huge family kitchen and sumptuous bathrooms, all blended perfectly with original period features. The welcome hamper of local produce was delightful. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners before we arrived and they are clearly attentive to every last detail as everything was perfect for our stay. Joanna was especially helpful while were organising our stay. All our meals were catered by Lynn Hilditch and her food was absolutely delicious and delighted our guests. Lynn's portions were so generous we had more leftovers than we could possibly eat up before it was time to leave. And we really did not want to leave at all, next time we will definitely be back for a longer stay!

Feels like a dream!
From the moment we drove through the archway, we were in another blissful world with our nearest and dearest, to celebrate our marriage at the stunning Melmerby Hall. Christine and Joanna answered all our questions quickly and insightfully right from our first contact with them; recommending the very best suppliers for our needs and supporting us right through to the ceremony. Details like the thoughtful welcome pack were lovely, it really helped to know we didn’t need to buy milk, butter, eggs etc. and the homemade Rowley Estates raspberry jam was delightful! All the bedrooms are individually designed and have en-suite bathrooms – it was a pleasure to show all our guests to their rooms, they felt very spoiled as did we in the stunning master suite – the bathroom was especially impressive. The billiards room went down very well but I’m glad to say the weather was kind to us so the outdoor seating & firepit were a big bonus for us. We’d like to give special praise to Lynn Hilditch; an accomplished chef who uses local ingredients some of which she’s grown herself, Lynn is insightful and knew what we wanted before we did! We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect wedding breakfast, the beef wellington was the star of the show and resulted in complete silence whilst we appreciated every mouthful – it was truly delicious & cooked to perfection. She returned the following night with her pizza oven which she set up alongside our cricket match on the lawn. Delicious pizza in the stunning grounds rounded off our stay perfectly. Our photographer Peter Ostrowski put us all at ease from the moment he arrived. He got the best out of even the most camera shy amongst us. He even gave us a gift and sent a beautiful video of our day within hours of leaving us. Debbie Walker of DLW Hair & Beauty set up camp in the Orangery at 9am on the morning of our wedding and worked her magic. She understood exactly what I wanted and effortlessly transformed me whilst the hustle and bustle of the busy day carried on around us. Alison from Yewbarrow Flower Farm delivered the prettiest, most natural bouquet and displays for us – all grown by her and freshly picked and arranged that morning. We enjoyed breakfast barms which were delivered to the Hall by The Village Bakery. Delicious & best quality bacon, eggs, sausages and twice the size we were expecting. So now we’re home & it feels like a dream; we’re all trying to keep it alive by sharing photos and videos and remembering all the little details. What a wonderful time we all had, thank you to everyone involved.

Incredible family weekend wedding
We loved the idea of getting married and having family together for the weekend and Melmerby Hall let us do that. We loved the photos online and even seeing it on a rainy day we were sure it was the place for us. The whole team were so helpful and supportive before and during the wedding, Christine, Joanna and Heather made sure we had everything we needed and provides a generous welcome hamper. The ceremony was small but we were able to live stream to those who couldn't make it. We arranged to have a 4 night stay which enabled us to get set up before everyone else arrived which was so useful. The grounds had lots of beautiful outdoor short options with the hills in the background. Thanks again for all your help and we'd love to come back for an anniversary get together.

Beautiful & Comfortable House
Beautiful & comfortable house!” Reviewed 4 February 2018 for a stay in January 2018 Melmerby Hall is a lovely large house - well equipped, spacious, comfortable & beautiful with a large garden with different areas to it & a gate leading straight into a woodland walk with a river. There were 20 of us - 14 adults & 6 children - plus our Border Terrier. There were plenty of social areas so that you could be part of the social bustle or relax in a quiet room with a roaring fire & a good book. There are plenty of walks straight from the house & a pub in the village. The kitchen had everything you need to cater/cook for large groups. All you need to bring is your own food & drink. The Master Suite was lovely although the interconnecting bedrooms did not suit our particular group - but it still worked out fine as the second bedroom had its own private entrance & outside staircase. We all had an amazing, wonderful weekend & we would love to return.
