Not what we expected for the significant cost
Our recent wedding at Kilmartin Castle was truly unforgettable, with the stunning venue and beautiful interior decoration making for a breathtaking backdrop. However, we were surprised and saddened by an additional £100 surcharge per guest, which was not disclosed in detail why to us until after we had booked the castle. Additionally, the cost only covered the venue itself, with no other services included. The list of services provided by the owners was unhelpful and basically on a standard email, leading us to arrange our own catering and music. While the castle’s beauty is undeniable, potential clients should be aware of the limited service provision despite the significant cost.

Overall, we would 100% recommend Kilmartin castle
My husband and I got wed at Kilmartin castle in August 2024. We were both delighted to hire the whole castle and grounds and thoroughly enjoyed the unique and quirky build in all its glory. We made use of the outdoor bbq, fire pit, wild pool, glass house and enjoyed fresh fruit and vegetables from the castle garden. Stef and Simo were readily available for advice and offered a list of pre approved suppliers to help make our day special. The difference in the venue from when we viewed a year ear

Fantastic wedding venue
We had the most amazing and magical wedding. Just Wow. I didn’t want the day to end - everything was perfect! The castle is so wonderful - what an amazing renovation. So beautiful but perfectly cosy - I just kept walking about looking at all the details finding more and more each time. I am so glad I picked your place. 3 days is just not long enough. At day 3 I wanted another 3 months ,,, by myself so that I could just pick different rooms/perches/ places in the grounds to just ‘be’ and feel the place and it’s magic. Sitting in the glasshouse with the doors open - the pool and then the view beyond was my very favourite spot. I’d love to keep that bit forever and have my studio (art) in there. Just fantastic.

The beginning
Hey folks, Simon and Stef here, we got married at Kilmartin Castle back in 2016. It was an atmospheric rainy Sunday in June, back before we ever imagined quitting our day jobs and sinking our life-savings and more into renovating the castle that we bought in 2014. We wanted to share our personal experience which led to this Aussie boy and Geordie girl restoring Kilmartin Castle to what you see today. The castle was truly a magical venue for our small wedding, but the catalyst for us deciding to start saving-up to make the jump into fully restoring the castle was the experience and joy of our guests! Everyone hanging out in Kilmartin Glen and loving it. We had organised a few group activities; an island boat trip to the Boathouse on Gigha for Scottish lobster and chips on the beach. Another to the Skipness castle seafood cabin. Our favourite activities usually revolve around food. It was the activities we didn't plan that were the truly surprising elements. Our wedding guests filled their days organically exploring our area in smaller groups, walking the historical sites of Kilmartin Glen, visiting the museum, discovering artist studios, there was even a local band gig in our cute local Kilmartin Pub, and a few friends went off whisky tasting the day before. Our friends, visiting from all over the world, said it was a really great holiday vibe in the area and they wanted to come back and explore for longer. Since then, they have done. Kilmartin Glen has become a favourite place for a lot of our friends who continually come back and discover new adventures every visit. We started hosting 3 night weddings at the restored castle from 2020, and we hope you can experience the magic of this tiny bit incredible area of Scotland. Making truly special and lasting memories with your closest people. Big Love, Stef & Simon

The most spectacular place we have ever been
We were lucky enough to have exclusive use of Kilmartin Castle for our wedding in October this year. Stef and Simon introduced us to our lovely celebrant Annie, photographer Bill and chef Ali. We couldn’t have asked for a better day for our wedding and the whole weekend. It is a truly magical place and the attention to detail is beyond anything I have seen before.

Highlight of our trip
Our 4-night stay at Kilmartin Castle was the highlight of our trip to Scotland. I did a lot of research on castle hotels in the country. Basically all of the other options are castle facades with a completely modern Marriott style interior. Kilmartin Castle is the real deal, by contrast. Stone walls and floors, uneven and creaky floor boards, towers with arrow slits, two stone spiral staircases (one scary, one less scary), no TV or Internet. It is the right compromise between 15th century everyt

The best of Scotland
I have traveled to almost every corner of Scotland and Kilmartin Castle has to be one of the best castle stays you will ever find. From having the entire, handsome building to yourself to the authentic castle feel mixed with the quirky, modern stylings in the interior, you've got a really special place on your hands. That it stands in the incredibly ancient Kilmartin Glen is icing on the cake. One of the unexpected highlights for me was the crate of incredible records! Get the fire roaring and t

A Fantastic family trip
Quality, quirky but cosy castle! Our four generations from 87 year old great grandma to 10 month old great grandson loved it all. It offers something for everyone from the luxurious bedrooms, windy stairs, big comfortable living room with a wee snug to escape for some peace and quiet. A great family kitchen with enough cooking power for any budding chef. This is a real treat you won’t regret it!

Time Travel!
If you are looking for a place that is both - a timetravel to a 16th century castle and an outstanding interior design experience - this is your place! Scotland provides for a few „rend a castle“ alternatives but Simon and Stef have just created something truly unique. The attention to detail in every niche of the building will make you roam the castle floors to look for all the smaller and larger surprises. And when your party is gathering in front of the fireplace in the grand hall you know it

FAQs

Describe the best wedding that happened at Kilmartin Castle?

I can't choose! All of our weddings are magical. As we are only big enough to hold small elopements, there's something so very romantic about a small group coming together in such an ancient place to mark the beginnning of such an exciting new chapter.

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

As well as having the perfect venue, it is so important to work with the right photographer. We suggest to our guests that these are the two most important dates to get booked, followed by your chef.

What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?

We have hosted a lot of weddings that include artists and it is always so beautiful to see their timelines for the day, which are often so beautifully sketched and always include the castle.

What is Kilmartin Castle most unique feature?

The love and care poured into the renovation is something that people mention to us regularly. We love this little castle. She's a part of the family and we are so happy to have the opportunity to share her with others.

What part of your business are you most proud of?

Can we say "All of it"? We did a lot of the work ourselves and everything in the castle was carefully thought about every step of the way. We dug up floors to put underfloor heating in, ran pipework through a grandfather clock to preserve the integrity of the building, rebuilt the chimney with the original stone found whilst digging to put drains in. But, I think we are most proud that this once abandoned 16th century castle is now such a warm welcoming place, full of joy and happiness. Breathing new life into an old place has been such a rewarding experience.
