Description

The stunning Winter Gardens were constructed in 1907 as an extension of the Tynedale Hydropathic Hotel. Once playing host to Hollywood greats Douglas Fairbanks Junior and Charles Laughton and leading Politicians of the day including British Prime Minister Ramsey Macdonald, the Hydro is a Grade II Listed Building and now part of Queen Elizabeth High School. The Winter Gardens has a capacity of up to 150+ and is used in conjunction with the wood panelled Hydro Hall with seating for up to 80. Both rooms are licensed for Marriage. The beautiful light and spacious former glasshouse provides a spectacular blank canvas for wedding ceremonies/receptions that are individual and unique to you. We can give you lots of hints and tips to help get you started and recommend some amazing local suppliers but ultimately, the choice is yours.

Perfect Venue for our daughter's wedding
This was a fabulous venue especially as it had so many different spaces that we could use. We loved decorating the beautiful glass house with plants and flowers and it was used for the ceremony, the breakfast, the ceilidh and a quieter space to sit and talk during the disco. We also had use of the wood-panelled Hydro Hall which was lovely for a wedding blessing, the cake cutting and the evening disco. We used at least three spaces outside: the area in front of the glass house and old school building - this was perfect for throwing confetti and for a large group photo; the modern courtyard at the back - a lovely place for drinks and canapes and the smaller group photos; and an area to the side of the glass house which we used for serving burgers in the evening. Our photographers and videographers were able to record fantastic images - the wedding video even starts with a little rabbit hopping away. My daughter wanted a dry-hire venue that she could decorate and make her own, and we really appreciated that since it was holiday time, we were allowed from 8:30-3:30 on the Friday to set up. It was also great being able to return on a later day to take it all down. Debbie and the site staff were very helpful through the whole booking and planning stages. We also like the fact that the money we spent on the hire goes to the state school that owns the premises. (A link to further photos can be found on the Winter Gardens webpage.)
