Description

HARTA retreat, nestled in the heart of North Devon, is a stunning glamping and tipi wedding venue that offers couples a truly unique and intimate setting for their special day. Surrounded by the natural beauty of the countryside and peaceful waterside views, this exclusive venue provides the perfect backdrop for outdoor ceremonies and relaxed celebrations. The heart of HARTA is our large event tipi, featuring a hardwood floor throughout, including the catering tent, and surrounded by Cotswold stone, ensuring comfort in all weather conditions. The sides of the tipi can be raised to bring the outdoors in on warm, sunny days or lowered to keep out the elements during wet weather, providing a versatile space that adapts to your needs. Whether it’s an intimate gathering or a larger celebration, our tipi can accommodate your vision. For outdoor ceremonies, our waterside ceremony tipi offers an idyllic spot to exchange vows in nature, with a wooden floor to keep things comfortable. For those who prefer an indoor alternative or in the event of rain, we offer flexible spaces that maintain the beauty of your day, rain or shine. HARTA retreat also features unique glamping accommodation with four charming tipi units and the Copper Beech Barn—a beautifully converted barn nestled next to a magnificent 350-year-old Copper Beech tree. The barn offers luxury and comfort with an open-plan design, sleeping 2-4 guests, and is dog-friendly. Perfect for your wedding party or close family, it allows everyone to stay close and enjoy the tranquility of the retreat. Our venue is ideal for couples looking for a relaxed, al fresco wedding with a bohemian touch. Whether you're dreaming of a lakeside ceremony or a reception under the stars, experience a slower way to celebrate your love. With picturesque surroundings, flexible spaces, and on-site accommodation, it’s the perfect location for tipi weddings in North Devon.

The most amazing fairy tale wedding in the woods EVER
We had the most amazing wedding at HARTA Retreat and would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone. We went to the venue for the first time over two years ago and have been in love since - it's totally gorgeous and set in a beautiful area. The lake is particularly stunning, but the whole grounds are perfect and well-maintained. The small tent (the nimbus) was the perfect location for our handfasting ceremony, and the area surrounding could not have been better for a relaxed reception. In terms of wedding photos and guest needs, we couldn't have picked a better location! Aaron and Miranda are the loveliest and most helpful people ever. Right from the start they have been accommodating and understanding, have helped us every step of the way (from trying out table layouts with us to 'helping' us try different Proseccos!) but have also been very good at letting us plough ahead with some of our madder plans. On the day, they were unbelievably good at being around to assist and run the behind-the-scenes stuff smoothly while artfully dodging the spotlight. We know just how much they were managing at one time, and it was impressive! They were incredibly kind to us when we were stressed, both before and after. The tipis were super comfortable and luxurious - my Grandma who was quite nervous about staying in a tent ended up having a lovely time. We got a lot of use from the massive bath and the coffee maker. There was enough accommodation to host most of our families onsite, which was a huge bonus for us. The main event tipi was unbelievably gorgeous. Everyone who entered was shocked! It was perfect for hosting the meal, and then flexible enough to host a very clumsy ceilidh afterwards. It gave very strong fairytale/fantasy vibes, and our pictures have turned out so beautifully. We couldn't be more pleased with our whole experience.

Location & Contact Details for HARTA retreat

Address

Cleave Farm, East Down, Devon, EX31 4NX, England, United Kingdom

Travel Notes

When using the SATNAV use the postcode, NOT the farm name as there are many Cleave Farms and it might take you elsewhere. Also, do NOT use the town East Down as, despite the address, we are not in East Down itself ! Using the postcode EX31 4NX the SATNAV will take you to the old entrance to Cleave Farm - a single track with a closed metal gate. Please continue along the road and take the next right (by the  large old ash tree). Follow the roller coaster road (you will see what we mean) over the bridge all the way to the end to the farm house and park anywhere near the huge 350-year old copper beech tree. If using what3words:  https://w3w.co/scorpions.coasting.crusted  will take you to the start of our private drive and https://w3w.co/rounds.besotted.goodnight will take you to the main farm house.

FAQs
Find out a bit more from our FAQs

Describe the best wedding that happened at HARTA retreat?

We're new and fully opening in 2025. Hoping to see many unique and amazing weddings !

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Keep things simple and relaxed so you can truly enjoy both the planning process and the big day itself without feeling rushed. Embrace a slower approach.

What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?

It has to be the pictures and videos shared during the speeches. They paint such a good picture of the couple and the story behind them. It's like reading a good love story !

Describe HARTA retreat in 5 adjectives

Serene, Intimate, Rustic, Idyllic, Natural

Where’s the best photo spot at HARTA retreat?

Oh so many to choose from! The waterside setting, the little "arboretum" as we call it for its unusual trees, the "oasis" behind the barn for the woodland setting with the waterfall backdrop, the wild grass meadow with views to Exmoor....

Have you had any celebrity guest or wedding at HARTA retreat?

A few yes ! And the farm itself has a bit of a celebrity history too, but we'll keep those stories for a relaxed evening by the outdoor fire when you come to stay :-)

What’s your favourite canapé?

Gosh another one that's hard too choose - again we are quite partial to anything Asian and anything with cheese, so they would be the first we'd pop into our mouths.

What’s your favourite midnight treat?

Depends on who you ask - the other half would say a curry of any sort as long as it's super spicy. As for me, staying true to my roots, it would have to be cheese - any kind ! Yum !

What is HARTA retreat most unique feature?

The diversity and beauty of the land. Nature in its absolute glory, with the waterside setting and small woodlands. The uniqueness of the tipis just adds to the magic.

What part of your business are you most proud of?

Pretty much everything ! The design, the land,.. All thanks to the people who helped make it possible and the lovely guests that come to stay.
