Markree Castle is conveniently located in County Sligo, offering easy access by both car and public transport.
By Car:
From Dublin: Take the M4 motorway towards Sligo and then the N4 towards the town of Collooney. Markree Castle is just a short drive from Collooney, clearly signposted.
From Galway: Take the N17 north to the N4, and follow the signs for Collooney. Markree Castle is a short drive from there.
By Train:
The nearest train station is Collooney, just a 5-minute drive from Markree Castle. You can take a train from Dublin to Collooney, and then a short taxi ride will bring you to the castle.
By Air:
The nearest airport is Ireland West Airport Knock (approx. 50 minutes by car). Alternatively, you can fly into Dublin or Galway and take a train or drive to the castle.

At Markree Castle, we like to give the happy couple a quiet moment together in the Observatory with their own private mini-bar – a chance to pause, soak it all in, and enjoy a little time just for two before the celebrations continue.
What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?
One of my favourite personal touches was when a couple included handwritten letters to each of their guests, thanking them for being part of their journey. The letters were placed at each place setting, and guests were so touched by the thoughtful gesture. It added such a personal and heartfelt element to the day, making everyone feel even more connected to the celebration. Small details like this really make a wedding unforgettable.

What’s your favourite midnight treat?
If I had to pick, I’d say smoked bacon butty baguettes – there’s nothing quite like that crispy, savoury goodness to end the night on a high note! A close second, though, would be our Tayto sandwich kits – That’s always a crowd-pleaser. Either way, you can't go wrong!

If I had to pick, inside the castle, the staircase as you enter is such a unique and stunning feature – it truly sets the tone for the grandeur of Markree Castle. Equally special is our on-site chapel, offering a beautiful and intimate space for ceremonies inside the castle. Outside, our woodland ceremony location is a hidden gem, surrounded by nature, while the picturesque boathouse adds a touch of charm and tranquility, making it perfect for unforgettable moments and photos.
